Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to school students' self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. Their role as a volunteer can give school students a sense of pride and identity. And the better they feel about themselves, the more likely they are to have a positive view of their life and future goals. Requiring community service allows schools to help students become more educated in how they can support others and aware of the impact they can have on the community. Having students volunteer gives them a better understanding of how many people need help in their own communities. Besides, volunteering helps students learn new skills, improve their leadership skills, build compassion, and become more responsible citizens. Some people, however, say those advantages are lost when students are forced to volunteer. Also, many teens don't have the time. When a required system is applied, there is no value of it because people are forced to help the community. Therefore, the community service and volunteerism will devalue and reduce in quality. While required volunteering may not be the end of the world for most students, it can add another level of stress. These time-consuming projects could drive students away from doing further community service. Students need to be encouraged to help their communities, but they should not be required to do so.
