Natural disasters come from our Earth's natural processes and can cause a lot of harm to people, animals, and places. Among various kinds of natural disasters, earthquakes seem to be unpredictable and more dangerous. An earthquake happens when there is a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust, making the ground shake. Most large earthquakes occur around the edges of the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes, earthquakes can be very strong and cause buildings to fall or roads to break. They can also cause people to get hurt or even lose their lives. For example, in 1976, an earthquake in the city of Tangshan, China resulted in the deaths of approximately 242,000 people, and the city was almost entirely destroyed. It is considered one of the deadliest earthquakes in recorded history. 

Although it is really difficult to give warnings about earthquakes, people ensure their safety through some tips. When an earthquake happens, stay away from windows, get under a table or desk, and hold on. After the shaking stops, it's also important to be careful of things that might have fallen or be ready to fall. Everyone should know about earthquakes and have a plan to stay safe.
